My great Grandfather Edwin William Tilley whom I never personally knew was the Chief Engineer on this boat in 1905. He was an immigrant from England born in Fivehead, Somerset in 1851. After his wife and infant son died in Mancelona, Mi but still with 5 other children he came ashore and worked for the Detroit Public Schools as a Stationary Steam Engineer. His only surviving son Edwin Monroe Tilley followed his father and worked for many years on Great Lakes Freighters, his last being the John Gehm.
