Milwaukee & Chicago grain trade

1847, September 28 Driven over Racine Reef into shallows in Lake

Michigan while en route Chicago to Buffalo with

cargo grain; half cargo lost; got off & laid up for

winter repairs

1848, October 26 Struck by squall north of Chicago with cargo grain,

dismasted, lost most of rig; towed to Chicago for

winter layup & repairs

Thomas Richmond bought controlling interest

home port Chicago

1848, April En route to Buffalo with cargo grain with schooner

TEMPEST; sunk near Sleeping Bear Island, Lake Michigan,

crew lost - witnessed by Captain of TEMPEST
