- The photo shows River St. facing East from Third Ave. This image was used in the March 09, 1973, publication in The Alpena news which stated the following:
"Downtown Changes Pending - In the near future, two River-st buildings will be torn down to make room for a small shopping complex, at a cost of some $300,000. Buildings involved in the planned demolition include the present Don's Radio Shop (two story building near the center of the picture) and the former Meyers Furs Store (near the right side of the picture adjacent to Lucille's Beauty Shop). According to Alpena realtor A.B. Crow, whose agency represents a group of private investors, the project will use the "arcade principle". Crow said the construction schedule will coincide with the demolition of the present library building, 305 Second, and a planned thoroughfare from Second-av through the recently constructed city riverfront parking lot to the foot of Third-av." - Notes
